Steven McIntosh is a Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering at Lehigh University, holding the Zisman Family Professorship. His research bridges catalysis, electrochemistry, materials chemistry, and reaction engineering to develop advanced energy systems.
- Education: Ph.D. and M.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania; B.Eng. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Edinburgh.
McIntosh’s work focuses on two major areas:
- Designing novel materials and composites for Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs), aiming to enhance performance through ionic/electronic conductivity and catalytic activity.
- Developing scalable, environmentally benign biological methods to fabricate functional nanomaterials, such as semiconductor quantum dots for artificial photosynthesis and water purification.
He has been recognized with prestigious awards:
- NSF Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award
- EU Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowship
McIntosh leads experimental studies using techniques like in-situ neutron diffraction and isotope exchange. His laboratory is located at Lehigh University’s Packer Campus in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
