معرفی
Steven Laureys is a Professor at the CERVO research centre, a clinical professor at the Centre du Cerveau of the CHU of Liège, and a Research Director at the Belgian National Fund of Scientific Research (FNRS). He founded the Coma Science Group at the University of Liège in 2014 and led it until early 2020. His work focuses on disorders of consciousness, functional neuroimaging, and the intersection of neuroscience and medical ethics.
- Education: MD from Vrije Universiteit Brussel (1993), M.Sc. in Pharmaceutical Medicine (1997), PhD from University of Liège (2000)
Research Interests: Laureys investigates residual brain function in coma, vegetative, minimally conscious, and locked-in states. His recent studies explore EEG microstate dynamics, AI-driven consciousness mechanisms, thalamic activity, and sensory disconnection during sleep/anesthesia. He integrates brain connectivity analysis with clinical applications to improve diagnosis and treatment.
Article Trends: Laureys' recent publications emphasize disorders of consciousness, brain connectivity, AI in neurology, pharmacological responses (e.g., Zolpidem), and electrophysiological markers. Key themes include personalized medicine, neuroimaging, and adaptive brain networks.
Scientific Awards:
- William James Prize (2004) from the Association for the Scientific Study of Consciousness (ASSC)
- Cognitive Neuroscience Society (CNS) Young Investigator Award (2007)
Grants and Collaborations: Laureys has contributed to international guidelines (American Academy of Neurology, European Academy of Neurology) and led multicenter studies like CENTER-TBI. He chairs the European Neurological Society Subcommittee on Coma and Disorders of Consciousness.
Labs and Teams: He is affiliated with the Coma Science Group at the GIGA-Consciousness Centre (University of Liège) and has collaborated with institutions such as the Vatican’s Pontifical Academy of Life and the Royal Hospital of Neuro-disability in London.
