Steven Lade

Dr Steven Lade is an ARC Future Fellow at the Australian National University's Fenner School of Environment and Society, and Co-lead of the Risk, Vulnerability and Resilience Research Cluster at the Institute for Climate, Energy and Disaster Solutions (ICEDS). He also serves as a Commissioner and co-lead of the Safe and Just Boundaries workstream at the Earth Commission (Future Earth), and holds roles in editorial and steering committees for organizations like Ecology & Society and Future Earth Australia. With a PhD in Theoretical Physics (ANU, 2010) and prior research at the Max Planck Institute and Stockholm Resilience Centre, his work focuses on complex systems approaches to human-environment resilience at planetary scales.

Research interests include water resources governance, climate change, biodiversity, and poverty alleviation through interdisciplinary collaborations. He has authored over 50 scientific articles, including high-impact works in *Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences* and *Nature Sustainability*. Teaching spans undergraduate/postgraduate courses on sustainability science, resilience, and adaptive governance. His group, Resilience Human And Planetary Systems (RHAPS), explores systemic risks and transformations via the website rhaps.earth.

Awards include the ARC Future Fellowship (2021) and the Dance Your PhD Physics Prize (2009). Current projects involve Earth system boundaries, environmental impact metrics, and water resilience frameworks. His work emphasizes translating scientific insights into actionable policies for global sustainability challenges.
