Kathryn Bowen

Kathryn Bowen is an Honorary Associate Professor at the Fenner School of Environment and Society within the College of Health and Medicine at ANU. She holds affiliate roles at the Research School of Population Health and the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (Potsdam, Germany). Her work bridges global environmental change, health governance, and equity in low/middle-income regions.

Research focuses on climate change adaptation governance, vulnerability assessments, and equitable health outcomes. She leads international projects addressing climate resilience in urban and rural contexts, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region.

Key contributions include roles as Lead Author for the IPCC 6th Assessment Report, member of the World Adaptation Science Program Science Committee, and Steering Committee member for Future Earth Health Knowledge Action Network. Advises WHO, DFAT, UNDP, and others on climate policy implementation.

Labs/Initiatives: Earth System Governance project, Zero Carbon Energy for Asia-Pacific Initiative (ZCEAP), Resilience Initiative for Food and Agriculture (RIFA). Engages in tool development for locally-driven green space projects in Melbourne.
