Steven L. Kunkel, Ph.D., is Executive Vice Dean for Research in the University of Michigan Medical School and Chief Scientific Officer for Michigan Medicine. He holds the Peter A. Ward Distinguished University Professor title in the Department of Pathology and has served the faculty as an Endowed Professor of Pathology Research.

Research Interests:
Kunkel’s work focuses on molecular mechanisms of lung inflammation, cytokine/chemokine biology, and their roles in acute/chronic disease progression. His group investigates epigenetic regulation in diabetic wound healing and T cell differentiation via Notch signaling.
