معرفی
Steven Johnson is a Full Professor at the Department of Physics, ETH Zürich, and Head of the Institute for Quantum Electronics. He holds a joint appointment with the Paul Scherrer Institute, where he leads the experimental laser group at the SwissFEL x-ray free-electron laser.
Education
- BSc in Mathematics and Physics from Harvey Mudd College, Claremont, CA, USA (1997)
- PhD in Physics from the University of California, Berkeley, CA, USA (2002)
Research Interests
His research focuses on atomic-scale motion of materials under sudden and strong nonequilibrium conditions. He explores how external perturbations can alter microscopic symmetries to change material properties, with applications in quantum electronics and laser physics.
Scientific Awards
- Advanced Light Source Doctoral Fellow (2001)
- National Science Foundation Graduate Student Fellow (1997)
Professional Affiliations
- Member of the American Physical Society (since 2000)
- Member of the Swiss Physical Society (since 2009)
- Member of the Proposal Evaluation Panel for FERMI@ELETTRA (2012)
- Member of the Admissions Committee for the Master's Programme in Physics at ETH Zurich (2015)
- Member of the Proposal Review Panel for LCLS free electron laser (2016)
- Member of the Strategy Commission for the Physics Department of ETH Zurich (since 2017)
