Prof. Jérôme Faist is a Full Professor at ETH Zürich's Institute for Quantum Electronics. He holds a Bachelor (1985) and Ph.D. (1989) in Physics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL). His career includes postdoctoral research at IBM Rüschlikon and Bell Laboratories, followed by professorships at the University of Neuchâtel (1997–2007) before joining ETH Zürich in 2007.
- Affiliations: Institute for Quantum Electronics, ETH Zürich
- Key Roles: Full Professor, Laser Research Lead
His research focuses on quantum cascade (QC) lasers, mid/far-infrared optoelectronics, and coherence phenomena in intersubband transitions under strong magnetic fields. He pioneered the QC laser, earning prestigious awards including the IEEE/LEOS Streifer Award and the Swiss Latsis Prize.
- Courses Taught: Physics II, Intersubband Optoelectronics, Laser Seminar
His work bridges fundamental quantum physics and applied laser technology, with ongoing exploration of high-performance QC lasers and magnetic field effects.
