Steven J. Sucheck, Ph.D., is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the University of Toledo within the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. His research program focuses on bioorganic chemistry and the development of small molecules for therapeutic and chemical biology applications, particularly against Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) and in immunotherapeutic vaccine design.
Currently, Dr. Sucheck leads three NIH-funded research initiatives: (1) Synthesis of enzyme inhibitors targeting trehalose utilization pathways in Mtb, (2) Development of marine natural product derivatives as anti-TB agents, and (3) Creation of antibody-recruiting molecules (ARMs) to enhance immunotherapies for cancer and bacterial infections. His work bridges synthetic organic chemistry with microbiology and immunology, emphasizing collaborative interdisciplinary approaches.
