Dr. Steven J. Salm is a Professor of History at Xavier University of Louisiana. He holds a BA in History and African Studies from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and an MA and PhD from the University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on Modern Africa, African Urban History, and Black Atlantic cultures, with fieldwork in Ghana and Sierra Leone.
Dr. Salm's research explores gender, youth, music, religion, urbanization, and globalization in Africa. His expertise spans historical and sociocultural analyses of African societies.
Award highlights include the Norma C. Francis Faculty Excellence Award for Service (2019) and fellowships supporting his scholarly work.
