Steven Gonzalez

Dr. Steven Gonzalez serves as an Assistant Professor of Applied Behavior Analysis at Ouachita Baptist University since 2020. With decades of experience since the 1990s, he combines behavioral psychology and applied behavior analysis (ABA) through his clinical work and executive role at the South Texas Behavioral Institute. His expertise spans crisis intervention, addiction studies, trauma resilience, and training for medical/law enforcement professionals.

Dr. Gonzalez’s research focuses on integrating Acceptance and Commitment Therapy/Training (ACT) with addiction studies, while pioneering pyramidal Behavior Skills Training (BST) for crisis de-escalation. He holds multiple certifications in trauma treatment, dialectical behavior therapy, and law enforcement instruction.

Notable achievements include developing a 72-hour crisis intervention program for Alamo Area Council of Governments and training federal/state agencies like DEA, DPS, and HIDTA. His work extends to supporting child protective services and reducing foster care placements through behavioral interventions.
