Steven Fraiberg is an Associate Professor in the Department of Writing, Rhetoric, and Cultures at Michigan State University (MSU), affiliated with the College of Arts and Letters. He holds academic appointments in Global Studies in Arts and Humanities and Jewish Studies. His research focuses on globalization's impact on higher education and workplaces, transnational entrepreneurship, multilingual literacies, and composition studies.
Dr. Fraiberg earned his Ph.D. in English (Writing Studies) from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, a M.S. in Technical Communication from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and a B.A. in English from the University of Michigan.
His research explores global innovation systems, Palestinian and Israeli tech ecosystems, and the transformative role of Chinese international students in U.S. universities. Recent work includes co-authoring Inventing the World Grant University, analyzing how Chinese students reshape U.S. academic landscapes through mobility and identity formation.
Publications emphasize spatial and translingual approaches to literacy, globalization's effects on education, and entrepreneurial communication. His work bridges sociocultural theory with global professional practices, addressing multilingualism in startups and cross-cultural pedagogical frameworks.
Current affiliations include the Jewish Studies Program and Global Studies at MSU, reflecting his interdisciplinary focus on transnational dynamics.
