Steven E. Harris is a Professor in the Department of History and American Studies at the University of Mary Washington. His research focuses on modern Russian and European history, with a particular emphasis on Soviet aviation, technology in authoritarian regimes, and transnational Cold War dynamics. He is currently working on a book titled Autocratic Airways: Aeroflot and the Russian Jet Age from Stalin to Putin, supported by a Verville Fellowship and a National Endowment for the Humanities stipend.

Harris teaches courses on Russian and French history, Stalinism, World War II, conspiracy theories, and aviation/space history. His publications explore urban planning, housing policies, and cultural aspects of Soviet life. Recent articles analyze Aeroflot’s role in global Cold War networks and its post-Soviet challenges.
