Professor Steven Clowes is a Professor and Director of Physics at the University of Surrey's School of Mathematics and Physics, affiliated with the Advanced Technology Institute. He specializes in quantum technologies and semiconductor physics, focusing on single-ion implantation, quantum control of dopants, and silicon solotronics. His research addresses challenges in optoelectronics, spintronics, and material strain engineering. He leads the Quantum Foundations and Technologies Research Group and directs the Physics with Quantum Technologies BSc/MPhys programs. Clowes holds significant grants, including a £444,301 EPSRC project on single-ion implantation and a £312,499 Innovate UK initiative for single-photon sources. His work bridges theoretical and applied aspects of quantum materials, with recent advancements in X-ray fluorescence microscopy and strained semiconductor membranes.
