Dr. Steven Chen is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Accounting at the University of Liverpool Management School (ULMS), with prior roles at Lancaster University Management School and Alliance Manchester Business School. He serves as Secretary/Treasurer of BAM’s Corporate Governance SIG and ECR Representative on ULMS’s Research and Impact Committee. His research focuses on capital markets and corporate sustainability, particularly non-financial stakeholders and ESG disclosures. He secured a £9,629 British Academy/Leverhulme grant (2025) and won multiple awards, including the 2025 Best Paper by an Early Career Researcher (IBR).
Research interests span climate change impacts on human capital, non-financial reporting, and stakeholder management. Recent work examines ISO 14001’s influence on FDI and machine learning applications in fraud detection. He teaches Advanced Financial Accounting & Reporting and co-ordinates modules at ULMS. Supervised one completed PhD and currently guides three candidates. Active in reviewing for top journals (e.g., JBF&A, JBR) and conferences (AAA, EAA).
Professional roles include External Examiner at Nova School of Business and Economics (2023–24), Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA), and memberships in AAA, CAAA, EAA, and other bodies.
