Dr Steven Andrews is a Research Fellow at the School of Earth and Environment, University of Leeds, Faculty of Environment, currently investigating mid-late Jurassic syn-rift deep-marine successions of the North Atlantic through the Jurassic SharQ project using East Greenland and North Sea datasets.
His academic foundation includes a BSc (Hons) and PhD from the University of Aberdeen. Professional trajectory spans:
- 12 field seasons with CASP in Cambridge across East Greenland (70°-76°N)
- Research on North Sea Triassic Mudstones at University of Aberdeen
- Lecturing in sedimentology/palaeoclimate at University of Exeter
- Work at University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI)
- Leadership in UNESCO World Heritage bid development for The Flow Country
Research centers on climate-driven sedimentary system evolution, featuring:
- High-resolution lacustrine environmental records
- Analysis of PTEM, Carnian Pluvial, and P-T boundary responses
- North Atlantic basin-scale stratigraphy and drainage reconstructions
- Applied focus on hydrocarbon exploration and CO2 sequestration systems
Professional affiliation includes membership in the International Association of Sedimentologists.
