Dr. Steven A. Hovan is a Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Geoscience at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). He was honored as IUP's 2007–08 University Professor, recognizing his exceptional contributions to teaching, research, and service. His research focuses on the interplay between atmospheric circulation, oceanic currents, and global climate change. Hovan holds a Ph.D. in Oceanography (Marine Geology and Geochemistry) from the University of Michigan (1993).
As a dedicated educator, Hovan emphasizes mentorship, guiding both undergraduate and graduate students in research projects to foster scientific inquiry. He has secured funding from the National Science Foundation and other agencies, contributing to collaborative initiatives like the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program. His work includes field research on ocean vessels and international presentations.
