Steve Oghumu is an Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University, focusing on immunology and oncology research. His work explores genetic and immunological factors in disease etiology, particularly oral carcinogenesis, X chromosome inactivation (XCI), and sex differences in neurologic and neoplastic disorders. He holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology from The Ohio State University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the College of Dentistry.
Research Interests:
- Oral cancer chemoprevention using black raspberries and immunomodulatory compounds
- XCI mechanisms driving sex differences in disease susceptibility, including substance use disorder
- Development of mouse models to study tumor immunology and epigenetic regulation
Key Projects:
- NIH-funded investigation into XCI contributions to sex differences in substance use disorder
- Preclinical models of oral cancer inhibition via dietary phytochemicals
- Single-cell RNA sequencing and CRISPR tools for epigenetic analysis
Grants & Awards: Active NIH grant supporting studies on XCI and substance use disorder. No listed scientific awards.
Labs & Teams: Leads a research lab focused on immunology, cancer biology, and epigenetics at The Ohio State University.
