Steve Meech is a Professor of Physical Chemistry at the University of East Anglia (UEA), affiliated with the School of Chemistry, Pharmacy and Pharmacology, the Centre for Photonics and Quantum Science, and the Chemistry of Light and Energy. He has held positions including an Inoue Foundation Fellowship at IMS Japan and an EPSRC Fellowship at the University of Groningen. His research focuses on ultrafast spectroscopic methods applied to complex systems like photoactive proteins, molecular motors, and aqueous solutions.
Key research areas include ultrafast two-dimensional spectroscopy, femtosecond stimulated Raman scattering, and nonlinear optics. He has pioneered studies on protein dynamics, molecular motors, and light-driven reactions. His work has been funded by grants from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and the Leverhulme Trust, including projects on molecular motors, fluorescent proteins, and optoelectronic materials.
Meech has advised numerous PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, many of whom now hold academic or industry roles globally. His lab collaborates internationally, with active projects exploring quantum coherence effects and bio-inspired molecular systems. Awards include the JSPS Fellowship and Inoue Foundation Fellowship, reflecting his contributions to physical chemistry and spectroscopy.
