Steve L. Lerner

Steve L. Lerner, Ph.D., is a Teaching Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Director of the Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering Program at Southern Methodist University. He holds ten US patents and has extensive corporate leadership experience as CTO and SVP at Praxair, Inc. (now Linde). His research focuses on thermal systems design, sustainability, corporate innovation practices, and medical devices.
Education: Ph.D. (Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, Princeton University), B.S. (Mechanical Engineering, Cooper Union), Executive Program (Stanford University).

• Advisory Roles: Boards of Praxair Technology Inc., Industrial Research Institute, SUNY Buffalo, University of Connecticut, and multiple tech firms in energy and materials industries.

His honors include the Guggenheim Fellowship, NSF Fellowship, and Dean’s Award from SUNY Buffalo. He has served as Commencement Speaker for SUNY Buffalo’s Engineering School.
