Professor Steve Evans is the Director of the Centre for Industrial Sustainability at the University of Cambridge. His work integrates interdisciplinary approaches to address industrial sustainability challenges, focusing on radical resource efficiency, sustainable business models, and systemic rethinking. With a 15-year industrial career, he held roles such as Engineering Systems Manager at Martin-Baker Engineering. His research tools have impacted over 300 companies globally and influenced UK/international policy.
Leadership roles include Chair of the IET Manufacturing Policy Panel, Co-Chair of the Manufacturing Commission (with Lord Bilimoria), and Board Chair of Project X Global, a cleantech start-up. He is also actively involved in the Textiles Circularity Centre, advancing circular bioeconomy initiatives. Recognized for academic leadership, he was inducted into Academia Europaea in 2019.
Steve volunteers annually in Brazilian favelas and drives disruptive innovation through cleantech ventures. His research grants include the UK's first funding in sustainable product service systems and multiple industrial symbiosis projects. He bridges academia, industry, and policy to advance global sustainability agendas.
