Steve Dorus is a Professor in the Department of Biology at Syracuse University's College of Arts & Sciences, affiliated with the Center for Reproductive Evolution (CRE). His research focuses on the molecular basis of reproductive trait evolution through the lens of sexual selection, exploring genetic variation, genotype-phenotype associations, and phenotypic fitness relationships.
- Education:
- Ph.D. in Genetics, University of Chicago (2004)
- B.A. in Biology, Amherst College (1996)
- Royal Society of Edinburgh Fellowship (2010)
- NIH Ruth Kirschstein NRSA Fellowship (2009)
His recent work examines genomic and proteomic dynamics in Drosophila and mosquito systems, including sperm evolution, post-mating physiological responses, and microbiome interactions. Collaborations span evolutionary proteomics, vector control, and paternal health impacts.
Scientific honors include the T.H. Huxley Award (2020). He actively serves on institutional committees and NIH study sections, and has secured major grants from the NIH, NSF, and American Heart Association for research on reproductive control of vectors and RNA interference in genomic conflicts.
