Steve Davis is an Associate Professor of History at the University of Kentucky. He holds affiliations with the African American and Africana Studies Department, the Commonwealth Institute for Black Studies, and the African Studies Association. His research focuses on South African history, particularly the intersection of technology and human rights, military history, and public history. Davis leads the Bitter Aloe Project, a groundbreaking AI initiative analyzing Truth and Reconciliation Commission data with machine learning and immersive technologies like VR.
His academic contributions include The ANC's War against Apartheid (2018), which re-examines Umkhonto we Sizwe's role in the liberation struggle through microhistorical analysis. He also investigates the 1981 Matola Raid's operational history and its Cold War implications. His work bridges digital humanities with traditional historiography, offering methodologies for humanities scholars.
