Steve Case is a Professor and Director of the University Honors Program at Olivet Nazarene University, teaching in the Chemistry and Geoscience Department of the School of STEM. His courses span astronomy, physics, and interdisciplinary topics including the history of science and science and theology.
His educational background includes:

Dr. Case's research focuses on historical and cultural aspects of stellar astronomy, particularly 19th-century developments. His cross-disciplinary approach integrates scientific, historical, and theological perspectives, exemplified by his book Making Stars Physical: The Astronomy of Sir John Herschel (University of Pittsburgh Press, 2018), which was the first comprehensive treatment of Herschel's contributions to astronomy.
His scientific recognition includes:
- Short-listed for the History of Science Society’s Pfizer Prize (2018)
- NSF GK-8 Fellow during graduate studies
As Director of the University Honors Program, Dr. Case mentors undergraduate students in interdisciplinary curricula. His past grant support includes the NSF GK-8 fellowship for educational outreach during his master's research on the Millington-Barnard Instrument Collection.
He actively participates in the international planetarium community through the International Planetarium Society, having taught in Italy via their exchange program and served on the organizing committee for the Biennial Workshop on the History of Astronomy. In 2018, he toured major observatories including ALMA and Cerro Tololo as part of the Astronomy in Chile Educator Ambassadors Program.
