Steve Berry is an Associate Professor and Undergraduate Program Director in the History Department at Simmons University. He has been affiliated with the university since 2007, specializing in American cultural history, particularly the role of religion in daily life and cross-cultural interactions in colonial and antebellum contexts. His research focuses on religious toleration, the Atlantic World, and maritime history, supported by a fellowship from the Boston Athenaeum and Congregational Library.

His research interests include religious practices aboard 18th-century ships, cultural encounters in the antebellum South, and the intersections of race, gender, and religion. Berry supervises internships at local museums and historic sites, emphasizing critical thinking and writing in his pedagogy.
His notable publication, A Path in the Mighty Waters (2015), explores shipboard life and transatlantic crossings. Berry’s work bridges historical methodology with material culture, reflecting his commitment to public history and community engagement.
