معرفی
Professor Stephen W Boyd is a full Professor in the Maritime Engineering group at the University of Southampton's School of Engineering. His research focuses on maritime composites, experimental and numerical mechanics, and non-contact full-field techniques for validating numerical models. He leads the Testing and Structures Research Laboratory (TSRL), specializing in composite materials, structural characterization, and imaging techniques. His teaching includes undergraduate Ship Science and postgraduate Maritime Engineering Science programs. Boyd has secured significant EPSRC funding for projects like 'Taylored Composites' and 'Structures 2025.' His awards include the Royal Institution of Naval Architects Wakeham Prize (2009) and the Vice-Chancellor's Teaching Award (2008). His work spans yacht performance prediction, hydrofoil modeling, and collaborative industry projects with organizations like the RNLI. Current research emphasizes high-fidelity testing methodologies and data-driven validation.
- Education:
- BEng in Marine Technology, Newcastle University (1999)
- MSc (by research), Glasgow University (2001)
- PhD in hybrid-composite metal joints for marine applications, University of Southampton (2006, part-time)
- Key Projects:
- EPSRC-funded projects on composite materials and structural testing
- EU FP7 project on co-blended polymers
- Hybrid lightweight joining technologies for naval applications
- Awards:
- RINA Wakeham Prize (2009)
