Stephen Vaughan is a Senior Lecturer in Photography at the Bath School of Art, Film and Media, University of Bath Spa. He specializes in interdisciplinary projects exploring the intersection of geology, cultural history, and scientific inquiry through photography. His work has been exhibited globally, including at the European Geosciences Union Assembly and institutions like Impressions Gallery and Blue Sky Gallery. Notable projects include A Catfish Sleeps (2009), examining Japan’s seismic culture, and collaborations with institutions like JAMSTEC on the Nankai Trough Seismogenic Zone Experiment. He has received awards such as the Lens Culture International Exposure Award and a Prix Pictet nomination.
Previously, Vaughan spent 18 years as a freelance theatre and film photographer, working with major companies like the Royal Shakespeare Company and Working Title Films. His academic qualifications include an MA from Brighton University. His current research focuses on American-Japanese links to the 1700 Cascadia Earthquake and a forthcoming book publication.
