Stephen Taylor

Stephen Taylor is a Distinguished Professor of Accounting at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), affiliated with the Accounting Discipline Group. He holds a PhD from the Australian Graduate School of Management (UNSW) and is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia. His primary research focuses on Financial Statement Analysis, Valuation, and the intersection of Accounting with Capital Markets. He has held leadership roles including Associate Dean-Research at the UTS Business School (2009–2016) and Chair of BARDsNet (2012–2015), representing business research deans in Australia and New Zealand.

Prof. Taylor’s expertise extends to audit quality, corporate governance, and regulatory policy. He currently serves on the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) and chairs the Audit and Risk Management Committee at the Rozetta Institute. His editorial roles include Co-Editor of the International Journal of Accounting and Associate Editor of Journal of International Accounting Research.

His research has been published in top journals such as The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting and Economics, and Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis. He has received significant funding from the Australian Research Council (ARC) and the Centre for International Finance and Regulation (CIFR), focusing on topics like enhanced disclosure regimes and financial reporting standards. His awards include best paper prizes from the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand.
