Dr Stephen Taylor is an Associate Professor in Human Resource Management at the University of Exeter Business School. He previously held lecturing positions at Manchester Business School and Manchester Metropolitan University Business School, with prior industry experience in hotel management and NHS leadership roles.
His academic credentials include:
- PhD from the University of Exeter
- MSc in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations from UMIST, Manchester
- MA in Modern History from the University of Oxford
Taylor's research examines critical intersections of employment systems and societal structures, with emphasis on employee retention mechanisms, career trajectories of political elites, occupational pension frameworks, and evolving labor market regulations. His work consistently bridges theoretical rigor with practical HRM applications, particularly in recruitment strategies, future-of-work scenarios, and employee benefits ecosystems.
He has authored seminal textbooks including nine editions of 'Resourcing & Talent Management', six editions of 'Employment Law: An Introduction' (with Astra Emir), and nine editions of 'Human Resource Management' (with Torrington, Hall, and Atkinson). His 2021 publication 'Work and Employment in a Changing Business Context' (with Graham Perkins) addresses contemporary organizational challenges.
As an active practitioner, Taylor serves as Chief Moderator for the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), having previously been Chief Examiner. He represents clients in employment tribunals, delivers specialized employment law training, and consults for businesses across European markets.
