Professor Stephen Sweeney holds the position of Professor of Photonics and Nanotechnology at the University of Glasgow and maintains a Visiting Professor role at the University of Surrey. His academic journey includes a BSc in Applied Physics and PhD in Semiconductor Laser Physics from the University of Surrey. He has held significant roles such as Head of the Department of Physics at Surrey and led the photonics group at the Advanced Technology Institute. His research focuses on semiconductor materials for photonic devices, including lasers and photovoltaics, with applications in communications, energy, and space-based photonics.
