Stephen Schottenfeld is a Professor of English at the University of Rochester's School of Arts & Sciences. He holds an MFA from the University of Iowa. His research focuses on modern and contemporary literature, with expertise in fiction writing, playwriting, and screenwriting. Schottenfeld’s work often explores professions and their impact on individual experiences, featuring characters like pawnbrokers, postal workers, and detectives. He has been honored with prestigious awards including the Michener/Copernicus grant, Halls Fiction Fellowship, and Shane Stevens Fellowship.
Education: MFA, University of Iowa.
His research interests emphasize narrative techniques that intertwine professional identities with broader societal themes. Recent publications include novels This Room Is Made of Noise (2023) and Bluff City Pawn (2014), alongside acclaimed short stories in journals like Virginia Quarterly Review and New England Review.
