Stephen Robertson

Stephen Robertson is a Lecturer in Vocal Performance at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS) with 19 years of teaching experience. Previously Head of Vocal Performance for 11 years, his research focuses on resonance and registration in the male classical voice, using spectrographic analysis to bridge voice science with practical pedagogy. He holds a PhD from St Andrew's University and a music degree from Oxford.

Research explores acoustic properties of singing, particularly second formant strategies for professional vocal quality. His article in the Journal of Singing establishes frameworks for technical training, and he is authoring a book translating voice science into applicable teaching methodologies.

Robertson has given masterclasses at international venues including the Physiology and Acoustics of Singing Conference (Stockholm), British Voice Association (London), Jacobs School of Music (Indiana), and Ohio State University. His students perform at major opera houses globally including Covent Garden, La Scala, and Glyndebourne.
