Dr. Stephen Peuchen serves as Information Manager and Head of the Research Office at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), part of the University of Groningen (RUG). He holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Chemistry from Virginia Commonwealth University (1990) and conducted postdoctoral research at University College London (UCL) in neurochemistry. Currently, he oversees research assessments, funding strategies, and biobanking policy development. As a part-time lecturer, he teaches Research Methodology in the Master of Transfusion Medicine program, focusing on low-resource healthcare settings.
His research spans information management systems, AI applications in healthcare/ICT, biobank governance, and mitochondrial neurochemistry. He pioneered the UMCG Biobank Regulation framework and contributed to national biobanking policies. Recent work explores large language models (LLMs) for ICT and research support systems.
