Stephen Parker

Dr. Stephen Parker is a Lecturer in Education (Educational Leadership & Policy) at the University of Glasgow since January 2022, affiliated with the School of Education. He holds a PhD from the University of South Australia (2011) and previously served as a Research Fellow in Education Policy and Social Justice. He is Managing Editor of Critical Studies in Education since 2012 and Deputy Leader of the Education Leadership and Policy Research Group. His research focuses on higher education policy, social justice in education, critical social theory, and research methodologies.

Research interests encompass higher education systems, equity, and the application of critical social theory. His recent work critiques tuition fee policies, student retention strategies, and widening participation initiatives in Australia and Scotland. Collaborative projects include analyses of student aspirations, teacher education practices, and systemic inequities in educational access.

Teaching: Leads courses on education policy (EDUC5073) and co-leads modules on equity/social justice (EDUC5910) and higher education policy (EDUC5915) in Glasgow's MSc and EdD programs.

Grants & Supervision: Secured grants for research on widening participation, student navigation capabilities, and pedagogic work. Supervises PhD students exploring international education, policy impacts, and student voice.
