Stephen Nathan Haymes is a Professor at DePaul University's College of Education, specializing in the Department of Teacher Education, Kinesiology, and Educational Studies. He is also affiliated with the Departments of International Studies and Peace, Justice, and Conflict Studies. As a Distinguished Faculty Member at Universidades Territoriales de Paz in Colombia, he co-develops global learning initiatives with rural education faculty in Neiva.

Haymes' research intersects decolonial theory, global South studies, and Africana existentialism, focusing on pedagogies developed by enslaved peoples and their descendants. Recent publications explore Afroindigenous resilience, ecological ethnicities, and postcolonial pedagogies, demonstrating a consistent commitment to decolonial frameworks. His award-winning book "Race, Culture, and the City: Pedagogy for Black Urban Struggle" highlights urban educational struggles.

Haymes serves on the board of an African American food sovereignty urban farm in Chicago and contributes to the Colombian NGO Justicia y Paz, supporting Afrodescendant and Indigenous communities.
