Stephen Myers is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of English at DeSales University, where he serves as Assistant Director of the MFA program in Creative Writing and Publishing. He has taught at DeSales since 1990 following his Ph.D. from the University of Rochester.
His educational background includes:
- BA in English from Allegheny College (1974)
- M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary (1978)
- Ph.D. in English from the University of Rochester (1990)
Myers' scholarly and creative work focuses on poetry, particularly W.B. Yeats studies, and creative writing. He authored the monograph Yeats’s Book of the Nineties: Poetry, Politics, and Rhetoric and numerous poems published in journals including The Gettysburg Review, Poetry East, and The Southern Review. His creative publications include the poetry collection Memory's Dog and chapbooks Work Site and Last Look at Joburg.
His awards include:
- Pushcart Prize (won once after multiple nominations)
- The Tusculum Review’s Chapbook Prize (2015) for Last Look at Joburg
- Raymond Lamont Short Prose Prize (2006) from Quarter After Eight
As Assistant Director of the MFA program, Myers guides graduate students in creative writing and publishing. He resides in Center Valley, Pennsylvania, with his wife Karen (who runs an academic research business) and is father to Nathaniel Myers, a DeSales alumnus and Notre Dame writing program faculty member.
