Koeth's work explores how suburbanization transformed Catholic parish life and political engagement. His award-winning dissertation examined the Diocese of Rockville Centre in postwar Long Island, arguing that suburbia revolutionized sacred spaces and Catholic participation in American public life. His forthcoming book 'Crabgrass Catholicism' develops this research.
His publications analyze the relationship between spatial transformations and religious identity, the political legacy of Catholic social teaching, and the evolution of parish structures. Research demonstrates consistent attention to how built environments shape religious experience and community formation.
