Dr. Stephen J. Loeb is a University Professor and Canada Research Chair in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Windsor, within the Faculty of Science. His research focuses on supramolecular chemistry, particularly the synthesis and application of mechanically interlocked molecules (MIMs), including rotaxanes and catenanes. His group explores integrating these MIMs into functional materials like metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and liquid crystalline materials to create molecular switches and machines with dynamic properties. Dr. Loeb has advised notable students such as PhD candidates Pablo Martinez-Bulit and Alex Stirk, who have received awards for their contributions. His work is highlighted by over 150 peer-reviewed publications, including significant contributions to MOF-based systems with dynamic components. He actively participates in academic leadership, serving as a session chair and organizer for international conferences like the International Symposium on Macrocyclic and Supramolecular Chemistry.
