Dr. Stephen Hobson is a Professor of Biology & Chemistry at Liberty University's School of Health Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of California, Irvine, and has extensive experience in both military and civilian research roles. His military service included work at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense, where he earned the Department of the Army Research and Development Achievement Award (2000) for contributions to medical countermeasures against chemical warfare agents. He has also led research teams at Senomyx, Inc., and Seacoast Science, Inc., focusing on medicinal chemistry, polymer synthesis, and chemical sensor development.
Dr. Hobson's research spans toxicology, organic chemistry, and polymer chemistry. Key areas include synthesis of stimuli-responsive polymers, graphene-based sensors, and medical countermeasures for chemical toxins. He has co-invented 14 U.S. patents and published 13 peer-reviewed articles. His work emphasizes practical applications, such as developing non-estrogenic BPA alternatives, improving chemical detection technologies, and mitigating toxic exposure effects through heat shock protein therapies.
