Dr Stephen Harrison is a Senior Lecturer in Archaeology at the University of Glasgow. He holds a BA and PhD from Trinity College Dublin (University of Dublin) and an MA from University College Cork (National University of Ireland). His research focuses on Viking Age archaeology in Ireland and Britain, particularly burial rites, weapon analysis, fortifications, and urbanization patterns. He has co-authored key works such as Viking Graves and Grave-Goods in Ireland (2015) and led the Irish Viking Graves Project at the National Museum of Ireland. His teaching includes postgraduate courses on Viking and Late Norse artefacts, and undergraduate courses on Public Archaeology and Scandinavian Scotland settlements. Current supervisions include projects on the Galloway Hoard and Viking Age Scotland conversion. He has held grants from AHRC and the Irish Research Council, and is an active member of archaeological societies like the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland.
His research interests span interdisciplinary approaches to Viking Age Dublin, Anglo-Norman settlement patterns, and the impact of metal-detection legislation on archaeological records. Notable projects include the AHRC-funded 'York-Dublin Axis Reconsidered' (2021-22), exploring Viking towns' interconnections.
