Stephen G. Morris is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at the College of Staten Island, part of the City University of New York (CUNY). He earned his PhD in Philosophy from Florida State University in 2004. His research focuses on Ethical Theory, Applied Ethics, Free Will, and Moral Psychology, with a particular interest in how neuroscience and evolutionary biology inform philosophical debates on moral responsibility and agency.
Stephen has authored or co-authored numerous influential publications, including the book Science and the End of Ethics (2015) and key articles on topics such as the evolution of cooperative behavior, compatibilism, and empirical analyses of free will. His work often bridges philosophical theory with scientific inquiry, emphasizing the need for an empirically informed ethics.
Morris has received notable accolades, including the Distinguished Professor Award (2008) and the James V. Mehl Outstanding Faculty Scholarship Award (2009) during his tenure at Missouri Western State University.
