معرفی
Stephen Flint is a Professor of Stratigraphy in the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences at The University of Manchester, and serves as Associate Vice President for Internationalisation in the Office of the President and Vice Chancellor (L5). His research focuses on sedimentary systems, submarine geology, and tectono-stratigraphic interactions, with particular expertise in deep-water environments, submarine canyons, and basin-margin dynamics. He leads the Basin Studies and Petroleum Geoscience research group and contributes to EnergyManchester initiatives.
Key research themes include the stratigraphic architecture of submarine slope systems, tectonic influences on sedimentation, and the application of machine learning to geomorphological analysis. Notable projects include studies of the Talara Basin (Peru), Karoo Basin (South Africa), and Peninsular Ranges (Mexico), examining processes like submarine landslide dynamics, sediment delivery mechanisms, and forearc basin evolution.
Flint has authored over 175 publications, including seminal works on sediment gravity flows, clinothem progradation, and the integration of outcrop and subsurface data for reservoir modeling. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to Energy and Sustainable Futures.
He is Chair of the PVC International Network with Universities UK, reflecting his leadership in international academic collaboration. Flint's research has produced datasets used for reservoir analog studies, including open-access contributions on submarine lobe fringes and sedimentary facies analysis.
