Professor Stephen Donkin is a mathematician at the University of York, specializing in Algebra and Lie type representation theory. He previously served as Head of the Department of Mathematics and holds editorial roles at the Journal of Pure and Applied Algebra. Donkin earned his undergraduate degree from Oxford and his Ph.D. from Warwick. He has held positions at Durham, Warwick, Cambridge, and Queen Mary before joining York in 2005. His research focuses on algebraic structures, cohomology, and module theory. He has secured grants from the EPSRC and EU, including projects like Integrability in Conformal Field Theory and Beyond (2006–2008) and Euclid Rtn (2002–2006). Donkin has hosted academic visitors such as Prof. Stephen Doty and Maud De Visscher, fostering collaborative research in algebraic group theory.
- Education:
- Bachelor's Degree: University of Oxford
- Ph.D.: University of Warwick
His research interests emphasize representation theory, particularly Specht modules and cohomological extensions. He has contributed to peer-reviewed journals like Journal of Algebra and Advances in Mathematics. Donkin’s editorial and grant review roles include membership in the EPSRC Peer Review College. His work bridges theoretical algebra with applications in symmetric group representations and algebraic structures.
