Stephen Davies is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Mary Washington (UMW). He joined the UMW faculty in 2006 and has taught courses in database schema theory, web application development, computational science, data mining, and object-oriented analysis & design.
Education
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering, Rice University (1992)
- M.S. in Electrical Engineering, University of Colorado at Boulder (1995)
- Ph.D. in Computer Science, University of Colorado at Boulder (2005)
His research focuses on modeling and simulation, particularly in understanding complex behaviors through virtual replicas. Recent projects include an agent-based model of racial diversity on college campuses, an intergenerational simulation of wealth distribution in the U.S., and an ecological simulation of a rare Virginia tidal wetlands plant. His work has been published in Communications of the ACM and IEEE Computer, and he has presented at notable conferences such as the International Conference on Database and Expert Systems Applications and the ACM Symposium on Computer Science Education.
Dr. Davies has received the VIVA Open Grant for his contributions to open and affordable course materials.
