Stephen Chignell is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability (IRES) under the Faculty of Science at the University of British Columbia. He completed his PhD in 2024 under the supervision of Mark Johnson and Terre Satterfield, focusing on interdisciplinary environmental research.

Chignell has received prestigious awards including the International Doctoral Fellow, R. Howard Webster Fellow, and Vanier Scholar titles, underscoring his academic excellence.
Previously, he contributed geospatial analyses to the IPBES Global Assessment and participated in participatory mapping projects with the Secondary Cities Initiative. He also reconstructed the history of Antarctic science through the McMurdo Dry Valleys Long-Term Ecological Research project.
