Stephen Brown is a Professor and Head of School at De Montfort University's School of Media and Communication, Faculty of Arts, Design and Humanities. He leads the Photographic History Research Centre, Knowledge Media Design, and IOCT research groups.
- Education: B.A. Hons (First) in Industrial Design (Engineering), M.Sc. in Design Technology
His research focuses on applying computational methods to enhance information discovery and knowledge construction, integrating information technology, design principles, and learning theory for effective learning design. He also explores design and systems theory for change management in complex adaptive systems, emphasizing human-centered and semantic design. His work contributes to digital humanities, eLearning, and cultural heritage data management.
The articles in his portfolio highlight trends in digital humanities, information systems, and educational technology, addressing challenges in database design, cultural heritage data usability, and Web 2.0 integration into learning environments.

He has also contributed to consultancy for organizations such as JISC, The Open University, and the European Commission.
Stephen's labs and teams include the Photographic History Research Centre, Knowledge Media Design, and IOCT, driving interdisciplinary projects in digital cultural heritage and learning technologies.
