معرفی
Stephen Abedon is a Professor of Microbiology at The Ohio State University, based at the Mansfield campus. He specializes in bacteriophage (phage) ecology and the pharmacodynamics of phage therapy, focusing on how phages interact with bacteria in biofilms and other structured environments. His research bridges evolutionary ecology and applied therapeutics, emphasizing the optimization of phages as antibacterial agents.
Education: PhD in Microbiology (University of Arizona, 1990), Postdoc at University of Pennsylvania (1993-1995). Promoted to Professor in 2019 after over 30 years at OSU. Active in teaching, including courses on microbial evolution and microbiology labs.
Research Interests: Phage infection dynamics, phage therapy efficacy, phage-bacteria interactions in biofilms, and evolutionary principles governing phage adaptation. He has authored/co-authored over 150 publications, including monographs and edited volumes on phage ecology and therapy.
Notable Achievements: Ranked #46,675 on the Stanford scholars list (2024), recipient of the OSU-Mansfield Excellence in Scholarship Award (2020), over 16,000 citations with an h-index of 60. Editor of multiple journals and special issues on phage therapy.
Grants & Collaborations: NIH grants (R01, R21), industry partnerships (e.g., with Infectech Inc.), and funded projects on phage therapy pharmacology and bacterial biocontrol.
