Stephanie Switzer

Dr. Stephanie Switzer is an Associate Professor at the Strathclyde Law School, University of Strathclyde, where she serves as Director of Education and contributes to the Strathclyde Centre for Environmental Law and Governance. As a co-investigator in the UKRI-funded One Ocean Hub, she bridges academic research with policy development through collaborations with the Scottish Government, European Commission, Convention on Biological Diversity, and Food and Agriculture Organisation.

Her research pioneers intersections between global health law and environmental governance, with focus on regime interactions in international law. She examines special and differential treatment mechanisms within WTO frameworks while advancing sustainable development through UN SDG-aligned scholarship. Current work critically analyzes pandemic treaty negotiations and pathogen access frameworks.

Recent publications demonstrate her leadership in adapting international legal instruments to contemporary health crises, particularly through analysis of WHO International Health Regulations amendments. Her scholarship consistently addresses real-world implementation gaps in transnational legal regimes.

Dr. Switzer secures major research funding including the ESRC project 'What can International Disaster Law Learn from Global Health Responses?' and the SUII initiative on public sector data governance. She actively supervises postgraduate researchers while leading curriculum development as Member of the Law Society of Scotland's Education and Training subcommittee.

She drives collaborative research through the Strathclyde Centre for Environmental Law and Governance and the international One Ocean Hub network, fostering cross-institutional partnerships on ocean governance and health law synergies.
