Stephanie Swedik

Stephanie Swedik is a Professor of Biology at Hiram College, specializing in virology and immunology. She holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Virology from Case Western Reserve University (2022) and a B.S. in Microbiology from Miami University (2016). Her postdoctoral work at Wake Forest University focused on vaccine development for infants under 6 months.

Her research explores viral immunology, including influenza vaccine design and immune responses in mucosal tissues. At Hiram, she teaches courses such as Microbiology, Genetics, and Immunology. She leads research on Ophidiomycosis (snake fungal disease) at the James H. Barrow Biological Field Station, currently with research assistant Jillian Moore.

Swedik’s publications highlight work on vaccine adjuvants, cytokine signaling in immunity, and viral cell cycle effects. She actively contributes to the Cleveland Women’s Orchestra, blending scientific and artistic passions.
