Her research focuses on obesity, type 2 diabetes, and vitamin D regulation in pediatric populations. She leads the Treating Obesity with Precision (TOP) Lab, investigating genetic and metabolic mechanisms of obesity and conducting clinical trials for obesity treatments.
Education: MD from Indiana University School of Medicine (2005). Residency and clinical fellowship at Indiana University and Cincinnati Children's Hospital. Postdoctoral fellowship in research at Cincinnati Children's Hospital.
Research interests include vitamin D's role in glucose regulation, genetic forms of obesity, and translational studies. She leads major studies like Teen-LABS (NIH-funded bariatric surgery outcomes) and the Genetic Disorders of Obesity Program registry. Her lab explores vitamin D receptor signaling in the brain and genetic influences on weight gain.
Grants include NIH-NIDDK funding (2022-2027) for vitamin D receptor studies and USDA grants (2013) on brain signaling. She has developed a Team-Based Learning curriculum for pediatric endocrinology fellows and serves as Medical Director of the Genetic Disorders of Obesity Program.
