Stephanie Simmons

Stephanie Simmons is an Associate Professor at Simon Fraser University (SFU) and a Canada Research Chair Tier 2 recipient, specializing in quantum information science. She serves as a CIFAR Fellow and is the Founder and Chief Quantum Officer of Photonic Inc. Her groundbreaking work on silicon quantum technologies has earned international recognition, including two Physics World Top Ten Breakthroughs of the Year (2013, 2015) and being named one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2020.

Education:

• D.Phil in Materials, Oxford University (Clarendon Scholar)
• B.Math in Pure Math/Math Phys, University of Waterloo

Her research focuses on advancing silicon-based quantum computing platforms, blending materials science and quantum physics. Simmons’s contributions have been featured in major media outlets such as the New York Times, BBC, and Scientific American.
